The Ongoing Palestinian Crisis: A Persistent Struggle for Justice

The Palestinian plight has been marked by an enduring struggle against the Israeli government and military, an issue that has persisted since 1948 and the Nakba. The Nakba, which saw the expulsion of over 750,000 Palestinians from their homes, remains at the core of the Palestinian narrative and is observed annually on May 15th. This article sheds light on the persistent challenges that Palestinians face, from the Nakba to the ongoing Israeli occupation, particularly in the Gaza Strip.

The Nakba - A Deliberate Act of Ethnic Cleansing:

The Nakba was not a spontaneous event but rather a deliberate act of ethnic cleansing perpetrated by Zionist militias and the Israeli military. This expulsion aimed to establish a Jewish-majority state in Palestine, utilizing any means necessary to attain this objective. The Nakba unfolded in the early 1940s with attacks on Palestinian villages and climaxed in 1948 when Israel declared independence, leading to the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their homes.

The Israeli Occupation - Violation of International Law:

The Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories commenced in 1967 after the Six-Day War, encompassing the West Bank, the Gaza Strip, and East Jerusalem. This occupation violates international law, as confirmed by numerous United Nations Security Council resolutions mandating Israel's withdrawal from these territories, resolutions Israel has declined to adhere to. Palestinians living under occupation are subject to a litany of human rights abuses, including military violence, collective punishment, land theft, house demolitions, water restrictions, political repression, and economic blockade.

The Gaza Strip - A Humanitarian Crisis:

The Gaza Strip, a coastal Palestinian territory, is home to over 2 million people. Despite Israel's 2005 military withdrawal, it maintained control of airspace and borders, imposing a stringent blockade. This blockade hampers the movement of people and goods, exacerbating the dire humanitarian crisis in the region. Moreover, it impedes reconstruction efforts after Israeli military operations, causing severe hardship.
