The Supreme Court of Pakistan is the highest court in the nation and has the jurisdiction to interpret the Constitution and render judgments that have an impact on millions of people's lives. Since its founding in 1949, it has significantly influenced the government and legal framework of the nation. The Supreme Court consists of a Chief Justice and up to sixteen additional justices nominated by the President on the advice of the Pakistan Judicial Commission.
