Mother's Day - A women with a golden heart
Every year, on Mother's Day, moms and other mother figures are acknowledged for the important roles they play in families and society. The majority of the world's nations observe it on the second Sunday in May. The origins of Mother's Day may be found in the festivals conducted in homage to mother deities like Rhea and Cybele in prehistoric societies like Greece and Rome. The first Mother's Day as we know it today was observed in the United States in 1908 when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial service for her mother Ann Jarvis, who had dedicated her life to fighting for improved sanitation and living conditions in Appalachian towns. President Woodrow Wilson declared the inaugural Mother's Day to be a national holiday in 1914. Around the world, Mother's Day is observed differently.
